Musical Interlude: Gold (1979)

When John Stewart climbed the pop charts with "Gold" in 1979, I thought he was just another new guy. He, in truth, wasn't. He had previously sung with the Kingston Trio, and made the transition from folk to pop-rock rather easily. However, "Gold" would be his biggest solo hit, and he wasn't heard from again.

The following clip comes from the pilot for Solid Gold as they counted down the top hits of 1979, though this show aired in 1980. The Solid Gold Dancers provide an alluring distraction, but missing from the picture are Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham & Stevie Nicks, who played on the track (and Stevie's vocals are heard in the chorus). Well, that was something else I wasn't aware of......
