Well, you knew it was inevitable. After a music-themed variant of Jeopardy! lasted a year or two on VH1 several years ago, someone would come up with the idea of a sports version.
Sony launched Sports Jeopardy! in 2014 for their online streaming service, Crackle, and signed Dan Patrick (Football Night in America, The Dan Patrick Show) as host. About the only thing he has in common with Jeopardy! MC Alex Trebek is that they're both letting their hair go gray on the air.
Last year, NBC, home to the original Jeopardy! in the 60's & 70's, acquired repurposing rights to Sports Jeopardy!. Since Patrick's radio talk show has a video version currently running on NBC Sports Channel, it seemed obvious that this Jeopardy! would end up there, too, debuting during the Summer Olympics. Right now, according to the not-always-reliable Wikipedia, Sports Jeopardy! is out of production, as the 3rd season was stopped in December. An episode aired on NBCSN on Sunday, well after the Super Bowl ended.
