Musical Interlude: Pink Cadillac (1988)

Trivia question: What artist has written hits for the following artists, in addition to scoring hits of his own?

Manfred Mann's Earth Band
Patti Smith
Natalie Cole
The Pointer Sisters

Answer: Bruce Springsteen. "The Boss" wrote "Fire", which was a hit for the Pointers, "Because the Night", which became Patti Smith's signature (and later covered by 10,000 Maniacs), "Blinded by the Light", which most people associated with Manfred Mann anyway, and "Pink Cadillac", which Natalie Cole rode up the charts in 1988.

Cole's bouncy, dance-floor ready cover was, for some folks, an introduction to the second generation singer, whose other best known hit was a unique cover of "Unforgettable", a "duet", after a fashion, with her late father, Nat "King" Cole. Now, Natalie joins her dad in musical heaven, as she has passed on. "Pink Cadillac" is posted in her memory.
