At a rally in Alabama Friday night, President Donald Trump railed against NFL athletes kneeling and/or protesting the National Anthem, not realizing that the protests are about the allegations of police brutality in a number of cities over the last few years.
Trump called for NFL owners to fire the players taking part in the protests. As a former sports owner himself, many moons ago (USFL), Trump has to understand that the social climate isn't the same as it was 30-35 years ago as it relates to sports.
Not surprisingly, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and several players fired back at President Manchild's latest Twitter tantrum. None of them, though, had the courage to make this statement:
That, by the way, comes from "Hyde & Hare". Bugs Bunny may have borrowed that bit from The Honeymooners.
Then, Trump doubled down on the Weasel award winning stupidity by taking exception to the decision by Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry not to visit the White House. Trump turned around and rescinded the invitation issued to the NBA champions. Unsurprisingly, the brainwashed dittoheads have posted messages on Yahoo!, claiming they'll boycott the NFL and/or NBA.
Being President of the United States is not the same as being CEO of a major corporation, Mr. Trump. Your behavior suggests very strongly that you haven't learned that lesson yet, two years after announcing your candidacy. Until today, the athletes of the NBA & NFL didn't have much of a problem with you as President. They didn't vote for you, but they respected the office. You're taking that respect and throwing it to the side because of your addiction to media attention. I respect the office, too, and I didn't vote for you or Hillary Clinton, but for someone who claims to share the same faith as I do, you're doing a poor job of representing the Christian faith. Ever hear of turning the other cheek? Apparently, Mr. Trump, you never have. I'm sure this latest set of Weasel ears will make little difference with you, but you know what? You're setting a bad example for this country. Period.
Puerto Rico is decimated, meanwhile Trump is picking fights with professional athletes. Way to prioritize, Cheeto face.
ReplyDeleteHilary Clinton wasn't the best choice, but for some (myself included), she was the only logical choice. I wouldn't vote for the orange sleazebag if he were running against Godzilla. At least Godzilla isn't a racist.
Not-My-President Orange Julius is truly living in another century. His latest attacks on the NFL and NBA stars basically translates to: "You black athletes work on our plantations, so don't get uppity!" Well, these men are not plantation workers, you egg-sucking piece of gutter trash, they're human beings with thoughts, emotions, opinions and a platform to try to change things for the better.
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree that social injustice is the elephant in the room which needs to be addressed, I wish Kaepernick and company hadn't chose the National Anthem as their vessel to raise awareness of it; the flag and what it represents to some folks is so iconic and sacred that too many misinterpret the demonstrations as an attack on the U.S. military or those who fought and died for this country, which it most definitely is not. The message is an important one, but by choosing the Anthem and the flag as the place to protest, all too often the lead unfortunately gets buried.
So Colin Kaepernick is an S.O.B. for taking a knee during the National Anthem, but white supremacists and Neo Nazis who wave the Confederate flag and preach hate at rallies are "fine people"? If Trump wants to see a *real* S.O.B., he only needs to look in the mirror.
ReplyDeleteThis repulsive ape in a tacky suit needs to understand that you can't condemn one group for expressing it's opinion(s) and then look the other way when a hate group does the same thing. Either EVERYONE has freedom of speech or NO ONE does.
This was never about the American flag. The only person I see disrespecting the flag is this sorry excuse for a POTUS, who disgraces the title every single day as long as he's holding the position. If you want to make things better for America, you incompetent clown, you should resign and let a *real* leader run this nation.
Dumb Donald is still catering to the same idiots who voted for him, because he can't help but continue to perpetrate the scam he ran his campaign on. He's addicted to attention, cameras, controversy, and self-love. Dr. Phil would have a field day with him.
ReplyDeleteI had a discussion with a couple of people at church before services began on Sunday. Trump reportedly became born again a year ago before the election. That said, he should be consulting his Bible, or meeting with VP Mike Pence, who may as well double as White House chaplain, to decide an appropriate course of action. Otherwise, the perception will remain as you guys illustrated. The embodiment of the Ugly American who's time-warped to the middle of the 20th century. He needs to sort out what issues the players are actually protesting (racial inequality, social injustice), and differentiate it from what his primary mission is. As Goldstar noted, Puerto Rico was decimated by Maria, but is Dumb Donald doing anything about it? Not anything publicly yet, until he's shamed into it.
