A little of this and a little of that

 A hometown landmark was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning.

Until 2016, Hill's Stationery occupied the 1st floor at 451 Broadway. The Hill family still owns the building, which now houses a spa and a women's clothing shop as the space occupied by the stationery store was split into two units.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation as of press time. What I do know is that I was roused awake around 2 am Saturday, as the scent of the fire reached my abode. They were still working on putting out the embers when I went to the post office seven hours later.

Comedian Ron White was right. You can't fix stupid.

Dumb Donald II (Donald Trump, Jr.) went online Saturday, and claimed to be disgusted by how Twitter is being used by employers to terminate employees.

Uh, your father did that while he was president, dumbass. Several times.

"Uh, you think he forgot on purpose so he'd have something to, you know, talk about?"

I think you're right, Mortimer. He's got nothing better to do, and too much time on his hands now that Daddy is in Florida being a dumbass himself. However, there's also the looming spectre of possible jail time on assorted fraud charges, not just for the former president, but Dumb Donald II, Stupid-E, Trust Fund Barbie (Ivanka), and probably Kenny Korrupt (Jared Kushner), too. Apparently, Dumb Donald II is not interested in golf or tennis.

That all having been said, Dumb Donald II gets the Dunce Cap this week.

CVS Pharmacy's downtown location may want to consider extending business hours now that they're giving vaccinations. 

Since Thursday, CVS has been giving vaccinations to eligible customers, but the line snakes around three aisles on the 3rd Street side. The entrance inside the Uncle Sam Atrium is closed to the public due to COVID restrictions, but, as I can tell you from personal experience, the Rensselaer County Board of Health, CVS, and building owner David Bryce might want to meet to make the Atrium entrance accessible again to make it easier for customers who are there to shop or pick up prescriptions. Twice in the last three days, I've had to navigate around the lines to do business at CVS. Just sayin'.

Walgreen's, on the other hand, is throwing up a corporate middle finger to customers in Albany & Menands.

Both locations, both former Rite Aid locations, have closed within the last couple of weeks, and the Albany Times-Union's Chris Churchill is pointing the finger of blame on the chain's corporate headquarters out of state.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if CVS takes one or both locations over, rather than a dollar store, unless Family Dollar or Dollar General wants to take a shot. Dollar General made its first inroads in the market within the last two years by opening up a location in Lansingburgh. The Menands location was all that was left of the former Price Chopper Plaza after the Golub Corporation decided to close the Chopper location in Menands a few years ago. Now, that entire plaza is empty. Not a good sign for Menands.
