Ed Sullivan, it seems, had a tradition of having the World Series champions appear on his show. We've previously featured the Mets forming a chorus after the 1969 Series. A year earlier, Detroit's Denny McClain, the Cy Young winner in 1968, was part of the Tigers' contingent on the show, and----surprise!---plays "The Girl From Ipanema" on the organ. Scope!
Now, if that ain't a way to start the new year, I don't know what is.
