We already have a self-serving man-child in the White House. So what's another one doing pretending to run against him?
If that "another one" is rapper and tabloid magnet Kanye West, there are two ways to look at it.
West, who previously said he'd make a run for 2020 five years ago, then amended it to 2024 after making friends with President Trump, announced on Saturday that he'd changed his mind and is making a run this year.
Right, and pigs actually fly.
Within minutes, if not seconds, of West's announcement on Saturday, while Trump was being his usual self in Washington, the rapper was slammed on social media. Many speculated that he was going to find his way onto a ballot to siphon votes away from Democratic candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden.
Actually, it's a publicity stunt to promote the pending release of a new CD. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins breaks it down:
The posted headline is a misnomer, folks. West is playing mind games. Aside from whatever charitable work wife Kim can actually do, West hasn't been taken seriously in too long because he's gone off the rails too many times. As Cousins helpfully points out, the deadline for declaring a run for the White House or any political office in most states has long since passed. And therein lies the base of West's attempt at deception. He knows Trump needs help getting re-elected. If he thinks he can influence the African-American vote, what with everything going on over the last month plus, he's even more delusional than Trump on a good day.
Sorry, Kanye, we can see right through you. Have another Dunce Cap.
