Twenty years after "California Dreamin'" first climbed the charts for The Mamas & The Papas, Denny Doherty & John Phillips decided to revisit that classic, but, with "Mama" Cass Elliott having passed on, they had to fill a void.
Elaine "Spanky" McFarlane (Spanky & Our Gang) stepped in for Elliott, and MacKenzie Phillips, John's daughter, fresh from One Day at a Time, filled her stepmother's role.
