Earlier this week, it was reported that MLB commissioner Rob Manfred had met with the Philadelphia Phillies, as he is trying to sell the idea of one thing MLB doesn't have, unlike other major sports leagues.
A salary cap.
That didn't sit well with slugger Bryce Harper, who got up in Manfred's grill, and the two had a heated exchange that turned the air blue with coarse language.
A salary cap, of course, would be anathema to Harper's agent, Scott Boras Badenov, who has a jillion clients in MLB.
Unfortunately, the story doesn't end there, because ESPN bloviator Stephen A. Smith had to weigh in, prompted by Chris "Mad Dog" Russo on First Take on Wednesday.
Smith reportedly wants Harper suspended for his comments and behavior.
Ladies & gentlemen, a professional moron.
Honestly, nothing is going to happen, so Screamin' A should stay in his lane.
And Russo gave up a cushier gig on MLB Network for this?

Baseball's trade deadline is 6 pm (ET) tonight, and teams are already making moves toward the stretch run.
The NL East leading Mets, in the course of getting swept by San Diego, sent reliever Jose Butto and prospects Blade Tidwell (who had 2 cups of coffee with the big club this year) and Drew Gilbert to San Francisco for reliever Tyler Rogers. Four more minor leaguers were sent to St. Louis for reliever Ryan Helsley.
Philadelphia picked up Minnesota closer Jhoan Duran for minor leaguers.
The Yankees acquired ex-Giant Austin Slater from the White Sox for a minor league pitcher.
Boston got ex-Met Steven Matz from St. Louis for a minor leaguer.
Rogers' brother, Taylor, was shipped from Cincinnati to Pittsburgh as part of a package for 2d generation star Ke'Bryan Hayes.
And there'll be more moves for sure in the next few hours.

When the NFL makes its 2nd annual trip to Brazil in September, YouTube will carry the game, and veteran announcer Rich Eisen (NFL Network) could be doing play-by-play. Ex-QB Kurt Warner was already named as a color analyst.
The game takes place September 5.
Meanwhile, the league's preseason television schedule starts tonight with the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio, between the Lions & Chargers (NBC, 8 pm ET).

ESPN will formally say good-bye to retiring College GameDay analyst/court jester Lee Corso on its season premiere August 30. Corso has become more known for donning mascot heads when he makes his headline pick of the week than for his past as a college coach. In all probability, Pat McAfee will take over as the resident clown.
