Sports this 'n' that

Can someone check and see if Chicken Little is licensed by the National Weather Service as a meteorologist?

Jokes aside, an advance forecast for rain or other inclement weather has thrown the proverbial monkey wrench into opening day plans for a number of baseball teams.

For example, ancient rivals Boston and the Yankees were to open the season against each other for the first time in 17 years. Mother Nature is making them wait a day:

Opening day has also been delayed in Minnesota. As for the Mets and Washington, the Nationals, fresh off closing the pre-season with a 14-0 whitewash on Tuesday, decided to delay their game to 7:05 pm (ET), figuring whatever is forecast for the DC area will pass by then. Good luck.

Many a professional wrestler has played football before stepping into the squared circle. From Bronko Nagurski to Hall of Famers like Ric Flair, Ernie Ladd & Paul Orndorff, modern legends like Steve "Dr. Death" Williams & Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and some of today's stars, like Roman Reigns & Jake Hager (who, like Williams, was a 2-sport star at Oklahoma), played football in either high school and/or college.

Enter Declan McMahon.

The eldest of Vince McMahon's 6 grandchildren, and eldest son of Shane McMahon, the Connecticut teen has committed to Indiana for next season, so there's a good chance either Shane or Vince, or both, could be on the Hoosiers' sidelines for games. The late Joe Laurinaitis, aka Road Warrior Animal, was a frequent guest at Ohio State games when son James played for the Buckeyes.

Something to keep an eye on next season.

Speaking of the Mets, they've decided that 2nd year pitcher Tylor Megill will get the opening night assignment vs. Washington, with Jacob deGrom on the IL (shoulder). Max Scherzer has pronounced himself ready for Friday.

After backup catcher Pedro Severino, formerly with Baltimore & Washington, was suspended 80 games for PED use, Milwaukee made a couple of trades, getting Victor "Beta" Caratini from San Diego, and Alex Jackson from Miami to back up starter Omar Narvaez. Still can't figure out how the Cubs let Caratini get away after the 2020 season......
