Patrick McGoohan (ex-The Prisoner, Danger Man/Secret Agent) returned to television in 1977 for what would be his last series.
Rafferty lasted just 10 episodes in all, airing on CBS. McGoohan played a retired Army doctor who was cranky and idiosyncratic. Kind of like the much later and longer lasting House, with a dose of the contemporary Quincy over at NBC. In fact, it can be argued that while Sid Rafferty was a medical doctor, not a coroner, he did do some investigating, such as in this sample clip.
McGoohan was unhappy working on this show, despite the creative pedigree involved (producer Jerry Thorpe, director Barry Crane, et al), and would not take another series.
