It has been 45 years since Procter & Gamble introduced a new soap opera on any of the networks.
It has been 38 years since CBS' last new soap (The Bold & The Beautiful).
It has been 34 years since the last series built around an African-American family, NBC's Generations, signed off after 3 years.
Enter Beyond The Gates.
The series premiered in February, and will continue at least until next year after getting a full season renewal in May. It is also the first soap opera wholly owned by CBS, and co-produced by the NAACP, which, I think, might've had advisers working on Generations back in the day.
At the head of the ensemble are a pair of familiar faces in Tamara Tunie (ex-Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) and Clifton Davis (ex-Amen, That's My Mama). P & G and CBS needed the veteran stars to help sell the show.
Following is a compilation of recent storylines.
