Just 5 days after suspending late night host Jimmy Kimmel, ABC/Disney has reversed course, and Jimmy Kimmel Live! returns tomorrow night.
So, what was the tipping point?
How about viewers, both common folks and celebrities alike, boycotting the network and cancelling their Disney+ subscriptions in droves the last few days? This was the price Disney had to pay for catering to the most insecure man on the planet yet again, Orange Judas himself, Donald Trump, and his FCC lap dog, Brendan "Used" Carr. To those subscribers, Carr had overstepped his authority as chairman of the FCC, so Trump can live out his Orwellian fever dream.
CNN has this:
To recap: Carr took Kimmel's remarks from a week ago out of context intentionally so he could have some leverage to lean on Disney. For that alone, those same viewers could turn their ire toward Carr, and file a class action defamation suit, charging him with misrepresenting his office with malicious intent.
If that happens, then either Carr resigns, or Trump is forced to remove him, and replace him with someone else who'd bend the knee. But since there is a great amount of bipartisan support against Carr's action last week, Congress could be the ones to remove Carr. Assuming there's enough people with spine to take action.
Sinclair Broadcasting, owners of two stations here in the 518, and some cable channels available here, demanded Kimmel apologize to Erika Kirk and make a donation, presumably, to Turning Point USA. I don't think that's going to happen. No, the one doing the apologizing should be Brendan Carr. His career depends on it.
