From "This Is Spinal Tap":
The Thamesmen, one of the early incarnations of the band that evolved into Spinal Tap, perform "Gimme Some Money", which is a mockery and a homage at the same time to British Invasion-era pop. Ed Begley, Jr. (St. Elsewhere) mans the drums in this segment.
Now, I definitely have to rent the movie.

You won't be disappointed!
Spinal Tap is a funny rip on 70s/early 80s metal bands. Michael McKeon (aka Lenny Kosnoski on Laverne & Shirley) was really good at musical parody. Remember Lenny & the Squigtones??
What got me was the characters of Lenny & Squiggy existed long before they appeared on L&S! According to an interview some years back, he and David Lander created the characters way back in college - a good decade before the rest of TV viewers saw them!
If he ever writes a memoir, I want it.
As previously noted elsewhere, Christopher Guest had developed the Nigel Tufnel persona as part of Lenny & the Squigtones when they appeared on American Bandstand five years earlier.
By the way, there are a couple of Lenny & the Squigtones videos, including the Bandstand appearance, to be had, plus Lenny w/o Squiggy. Just punch up Lenny & the Squigtones in the search box.
