If you listened to AM radio in the 60's & 70's, you're familiar with the following:
"For Lovin' Me".
"Canadian Railroad Trilogy".
"Sundown".
"Rainy Day People".
"Carefree Highway".
"The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald".
Gordon Lightfoot wrote all of the above, part of a treasure trove of hits dating back to his on stage debut at the age of 20 in his native Canada. He was so beloved in his native land that fellow Canadians the Guess Who recorded "Lightfoot" as the B-side to one of their big hits, "These Eyes".
Still, it was a shock to learn this morning that Lightfoot had passed away at 84 from natural causes. Oldies channels, such as WROW & WTRY here, will honor him by playing as much of his music today, and probably through the week, as possible.
