What Might've Been: Doctors' Hospital (1975)

 In 1975, Medical Center & Marcus Welby, MD were nearing the end. Universal, home to Welby, sold a totally new medical drama to NBC. Unfortunately, Doctors' Hospital didn't even finish the season.

George Peppard (ex-Banacek) was the headline star, but the big reason why this show ended prematurely was due to Peppard's decision to step down. The studio wanted to move the focus to co-star Zohra Lampert (ex-The Girl With Something Extra), who'd won an Emmy for a guest role on Kojak, but, despite the honor, she didn't have the name recognition network suits wanted. Kojak executive producer Matthew Rapf had the same gig on Doctors' Hospital.
