Notes from around town

Time was when kids dreaded going back to school, knowing summer vacation lasted just a couple of months.

Today, schools are trying to eliminate the fear and dread by being more, well, encouraging.

Take, for example, this video from the Troy City School District, set at School 2.

Works for me.

To follow up on an earlier report, it appears Vivian's Lounge on Congress Street appears to be back in business. The notices from the State Liquor Authority have been taken down, but, aside from a "For rent" sign in the window, there's no indication that the bar has actually reopened.

Stay tuned.

Count Troy among the cities housing cannabis retailers, as there are at least two that specialize in it.

One is 420 Bliss, located at Brunswick Plaza, a few doors from Spectrum's store. The other just opened on River Street a few weeks back. Other stores do offer CBD items among their available stock.

You knew this would happen when they decided to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes, but the recreational users want their fair share, too, it'd seem.

I never understood the appeal, and likely, never will.
