Football this 'n' that

Three days later, there's still some fallout from Ohio State's season opening win over preseason #1 Texas.

You have Ohio State supporters, not satisfied with the win, claiming they'll boycott ESPN, just because a ranking associated with the network left Texas at #1. It's one poll, and likely, an outlier.

After all the hype surrounding QB Arch Manning, he & coach Steve Sarkisian couldn't get the Longhorns on the board until the 4th quarter against a Buckeye defense now under the direction of RPI grad and former NFL coach Matt Patricia, who coached against Arch's uncles, Eli & Peyton, in the NFL. That experience served Patricia well here.

Those same fans can relax, now that a coaches' poll has the Buckeyes at #1.

The same, however, cannot be said for Patricia's former boss, Bill Belichick.

"Coach Hoodie" lost his collegiate debut, as North Carolina was shredded by Texas Christian, 47-10, on Monday night. After taking a year off from coaching to do television, Belichick may have overestimated the Tar Heels' chances.

Still, it's just one game.

The pitchforks are out in Tuscaloosa after Alabama was hammered by Florida State Saturday, and one report claimed fans are calling for 2nd year coach Kalen DeBoer's head already. 'Bama's been through down periods before, but this generation of spoiled fans can't deal with the losing.

To paraphrase the late Don Rickles, send them a case of Dr. Pepper, so they can go away.

It's just one game.

Ohio State fans might also have a bone to pick with Barstool Sports frontman Dave Portnoy.

Fox's newest idiot.

On the premiere of his new FS1 show, Wake Up Barstool, Portnoy claimed, without evidence, that Ohio State had a mole at Michigan prior to last November's season finale. Portnoy claims the Buckeyes may have to vacate their championship won in January.

As newly retired ESPN analyst Lee Corso might put it, not so fast, my friend.

Portnoy, who will unfortunately also pollute Fox's Big Noon Saturday with his presence, has nothing to back up his claims. If what he said is true, why didn't the NCAA do something between November & January?

Well, the fact that he's a liar shouldn't surprise anyone, considering he supports President Pampers (Donald Trump).

Meanwhile, ESPN's resident hot air salesman, Stephen A. Smith, is pinning the blame on Texas' loss to the Buckeyes on coach Steve Sarkisian, moreso than on Arch Manning. As usual, Smith leads with his mouth, demonstrating his general ignorance. As noted above, let's give Matt Patricia his props. If Ohio State is to repeat as national champion, Patricia may be a key element.
