Sports this 'n' that

Reality has finally caught up with Washington's NFL franchise.

The team's original owner, the late George Marshall, had his statue removed from FedEx Field recently. FedEx (Federal Express to you laymen), Nike, Pepsi, and other sponsors had stood with Native American groups protesting the continued use of the name "Redskins" due to its derogatory nature. Once Snyder saw that he was soon going to lose sponsorship & advertising money, he finally capitulated after years of steadfastly refusing to make changes.

We should be hearing from America's Oldest Baby before the end of the day.

Coronavirus has taken a toll on sports in general, and, as a growing number of star players have pledged to sit out the 2020 season for health & safety reasons, the Toronto Blue Jays are finding themselves stuck in a difficult Catch-22.

The Canadian government, as of press time, hasn't approved any home dates at Rogers Centre (formerly Skydome), and there's the issue of teams having to quarantine for 2 weeks upon entering the country, just like quarantining here in New York for the same amount of time if coming in from hot spots such as Arizona, Texas, & Florida. The latter state's present situation rules out the Jays' use of their spring training facility in Dunedin, which they've used since the team was founded in 1977.

With the start of regular season play 10 days away as of press time, the Jays are reaching out to their Triple A affiliate in Buffalo to set up shop there this season, since the Bisons' season has been cancelled.

The recent surge in COVID-19 cases in the above mentioned states further imperils the schedule due to the quarantine requirements, as the NL & AL West teams would be most adversely affected. AL & NL East teams, including the Mets, Jays, & Yankees, would face those same quarantine requirements, since they have trips scheduled into Florida.

I'm starting to think that if you bet the over/under on whether or not all 60 games will be played, bet the under.
