If Tuesday's sermon by the Right Rev. Marianne Budde in Washington is any barometer, President Donald Trump will likely not show up in church for a while to come.
Rev. Budde, a New Jersey native, called for mercy and compassion toward the LGBTQ community and migrants, two groups that Trump and his allies, including Stephen Miller, have targeted unfairly. Mike Collins in Georgia called for Rev. Budde to be deported, which is not possible since she was born in this country.
CNN has an interview with Rev. Budde, including a clip of the sermon, and check Trump's reaction.
In Trump's mind, in the words of Billy Joel, "there was someplace that he'd rather be" ("Piano Man", 1973). His body language suggested he didn't want to be there, and there's been the criticism that he doesn't attend service often enough to justify his claims of being a born-again Christian, and he clearly is not.
Trump raged on Truth Social, whining as usual, so very un-presidential.
Basically, it comes down to this. Trump doesn't like being told what to do.
"WAAAAAAHHHH!! I don't want to hear it!"
You could see VP JD Vance actually glancing at the program during the sermon, as people are wont to do in church. Based on Trump's stance, he wanted to go back to the White House and find something else to do. To have the audacity to demand an apology from Rev. Budde is appalling enough, par for the course.
America, this is what you asked for.
