Eddie Cochran scored a huge hit in 1958 with "Summertime Blues". Nearly 30 years later, after it'd been covered by artists as diverse as The Who, Jimi Hendrix, and Blue Cheer, Stray Cats frontman Brian Setzer, cast as Cochran in "La Bamba", put his stamp on the rock classic.
Country singer Alan Jackson also scored a #1 hit with "Blues". Setzer's version was one of his first solo efforts. The movie also featured Howard Huntsberry as Jackie Wilson, and Marshall Crenshaw as Buddy Holly. Lou Diamond Phillips, who had the lead as Ritchie Valens, didn't sing. The Valens covers were performed by Los Lobos.
