This week, we're serving up episodes of What's My Line?, To Tell The Truth, & I've Got a Secret under the umbrella theme of "Different, Yet The Same". This will include the 1965 experiment with the latter two series later on this week, but we'll start with a 1959 episode of Line that brought a bit of British flavor to the American franchise.
Like John Charles Daly, Eamonn Andrews was also a news anchor who was asked to serve as "chairman" (moderator) for the British version of Line after original chairman Gilbert Harding stepped down and ultimately became a panelist. With Daly on assignment in Tokyo for his other employer, ABC, Andrews served as guest moderator for a week in 1959, getting acquainted with Dorothy Kilgallen, Bennett Cerf, and the husband & wife duo of Martin Gabel and Arlene Francis.
Tomorrow, in part 2 of this series, we'll take a look at the British Line.
Rating: A.
