Advertising For Dummies: Why would anyone impersonate Chris Paul? (2020)

NBA star Chris Paul is State Farm's other sports star, aside from Aaron Rodgers & Patrick Mahomes. However, Paul gets the identity theft treatment in this spot, as Alfonso Ribiero (America's Funniest Home Videos, Catch 21) thinks he can pass himself off as "The New Chris Paul".

Two problems. One, Alfonso is older than the pro athlete he's mimicking. Two, this commercial was DOA.

I kept wondering who the "impostor" was! He doesn't look at all like his days on Fresh Prince as Carlton!

I think it might have been funnier to have Ribiro and Rickey Schroeder reprise their roles from Silver Spoons and play with the possibilities. For extra giggles, bring in Joel Higgins as Edward.

Well, the dude has been busy. He's also doing another commercial, I forget which sponsor, with Jerry O'Connell. Someone should tell him, though, that his dance moves, dating back to his Broadway days, pre-Silver Spoons, don't equate to basketball.

These two State Farm ad actually got me. They're both so dumb and absurd that they're hilarious. When Alphonzo Ribero smashes through the window shouting "I'm the new Chris Paul!", I lost it.

Not even Carlton was that wack.
