Daytime's syndicated landscape continues to change

When the fall season begins in mid-to-late September, a few familiar titles will be missing, although one is just being tweaked under new management.

First, Dr. Phil McGraw announced that he was ending his self-titled talk show, airing locally on WRGB. Then, Judge Mathis was being cancelled by its syndicator, Warner Bros., which also decided to end the current iteration of The People's Court. However, Mathis has landed a new deal with comic-turned-producer Byron Allen's production company, which revived the old Heatter-Quigley game, Funny You Should Ask a couple of years back, so Mathis will be back in the fall, starting from season 1 over again.

Now comes word that 518 product Rachael Ray is ending her series, which began in 2006. Ray, whose program airs locally on WNYT & WNYA, spun off a monthly magazine, Everyday with Rachael Ray, during the series' run, and, like Dr. Phil, was mentored by Oprah Winfrey.

Our gal Rachael with Emeril Lagasse.

Rachael might be better remembered for putting some new slang in the lexicon, with words like "delish" and "yummo".

CBS' syndication arm, which distributed Dr. Phil and Rachael Ray, had previously said good-bye to Dr. Oz and The Doctors during the 2021-2 season, and is hoping to repackage reruns of Dr, Phil for next fall to keep the show on the air, seeing the success they've had keeping Judge Judy in play after that series ended and segued into the online Judy Justice, now in its 2nd season.

Maybe now would be a good time for a game show revolution.......
