Celebrity Rock: Hallelujah (2016)

Kate McKinnon was one of those who left Saturday Night Live at the end of last season. This next clip came up because another SNL alumnus, Rob Schneider, gave an interview recently where he felt the series went down a political rabbit hole six years ago.

Of course, Schneider's a little biased, since he's since been revealed to be a GOPer. His beef? McKinnon, as Hillary Clinton, opened an episode with a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" on the piano.

In case Schneider forgot, SNL has always done political humor, poking fun at every sitting President from Gerald Ford to Joe Bden, and even doing bits on the likes of Richard Nixon. As SNL approaches season 48, Schneider's almost certain not to be brought back as a guest host. Should've known better.

Schneider's just the latest SNL alum to be outed as an RWNJ; Victoria Jackson and Dennis Miller have also since become far-right pariahs. (Shame too, because I was a fan of Miller's before he drank the Kool-Aid.)

I remember the night Kate McKinnon performed this bit. It was the first show after Mayor McTreason cheated and dumb lucked his way into the White House. (Leonard Cohen has also recently passed away shortly before this episode aired.) At the end of the number, McKinnon as Hillary Clinton, turns to the audience and says, "I'm not giving up, and neither should you." So while Rob Schneider derided that skit, no lie, that was just what I needed to hear at that point in time.

This is the effect that Donald Trump has always had on people - and it goes back farther than his "political career".
I'm old enough to remember back to the Eighties, when The Donald was first attracting that old joke:
Where's the most dangerous place to stand in New York City?
Anywhere between Donald Trump and a camera.

Nobody remembers this, but in the 1992 and 1996 Presidential elections, Trump was a major financial contributor to both of Bill Clinton's campaigns.
Trump wasn't a Liberal Democrat then, and he's not a Conservative Republican now.
All Donald has ever wanted is to be the center of attention: how and why are supposed to take care of themselves.
That's why Trump was such a bad President - he never bothered to learn the job; he let his lackeys do the grunt work while he strutted around "being The Boss".
Remember this line?:
If anything happens to Mitch McConnell - Trump becomes President!
Delusions are like that ...

@Silverstar: You can add Joe Piscopo to the list of SNL alums turned GOPers. Has a morning radio show in NJ, last I'd heard.

@Mike: Do we have actual, concrete proof that Trump is functionally illiterate?
