When MTV meant something: Loud 'N' Fast: Inside Heavy Metal (1986)

As MTV evolved in the mid-80's, the network found that a large chunk of the youth demographic was into heavy metal. Whether it was British veterans like Iron Maiden or Judas Priest, or American acts making their mark, like Ratt, Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, Metallica, and Slayer, for example. For 80's teens, the louder, the better.

I can relate. A couple of friends of mine played in some metal bands as recently as the 90's, and played gigs at the now-defunct South Troy Community Center on a monthly basis. One band came out of ye scribe's graduating class at Troy High, but never made it big. Their biggest claim to fame was their bass player was the son of a judge.

MTV's Loud 'N' Fast: Inside Heavy Metal took a look at the growing interest in metal. This video is joined in progress, unfortunately. Alan Hunter is the narrator.

We all know the controversy of the period because of the contents of the albums. More than 35 years later, metal still has its place, but not on MTV, of course.
